Bachelor of Science in Forestry provides students with the knowledge and training about Forestry. Forestry program trains students in the managing of forests, new plantation, maintaining old plantations and other natural resources. The main aim of forestry studies is the creation and implementation of systems and framework for the sustainable continuation of forest resources and supplies and to make sure that the non-renewable sources do not get extinct. During the program, students are offered theoretical and practical knowledge regarding forestry and other related fields. Forestry professionals have various duties to perform such as managing forest resources, conserving forest and forest supplies, generating awareness and implementing new technology in the forestry department. Candidates who are keen to take up a career in forestry must have a spirit of adventure, enthusiasm for outdoor activities, physical fitness and should be adaptable to the new surroundings. They should also have a keen interest in global concerns and how to preserve the environment.

Eligibility for B.Sc (Hons) in Forestry

A person who has secured at least 50% marks ( 45% in case of candidate belonging to Scheduled cast/tribes) of the aggregate marks in four compulsory subjects i.e. Chemistry, Physics, Biology/Math and English taken together of 10+2 pattern or equivalent examination from recognized Board/University shall be eligible to join the first semester of the course OR Intermediate/10+2 with agriculture subjects.

Career Opportunities After B.Sc (Hons) in Forestry

B.Sc. Forestry graduates in the Forest Department of Indian Government. One may land the job of a forester or forest department officer in State Governments’ Forest Department. For this, one has to go through the selection process and examination though. In case of private sector jobs, some job posts available are- plantation and resort manager, forest product marketing, forest products purchasing manager, Research and Development sector etc. Starting salary is generally around 30k-40k per month. In case of Government job, it depends on the Pay Band (class and Grade of job post).
