Salary made by Radiologists in India

Radiologists make an average salary of INR 4,00,000 per year. Entry-level job positions offer around INR 3,00,000. The experienced workers make up to INR 2,975,000 per year.

The salary varies according to the type of work you do and where you work.
A Radiologist can work in places like a private hospital or medical college, as a consultant in a government medical college hospital either central or state. They can also work as consultants in private scan clinics and centers or start their own centers.

Over 95% of radiologists exclusively perform diagnostic procedures like USG, CT, and MRI. Few people actually intervene.

Radiologists- Job Profile and Salary

Where they work has a significant impact on how much money they make.

  • They only receive fixed pay if they work in a government hospital. Faculty at AIIMS are paid a minimum of one lakh rupees (Rs. 1 lakh) and a maximum of two lakh rupees
  • In comparison to central institutions, the compensation is lower at government-run state medical colleges.
  • It costs a little more to attend private medical schools. Some universities in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry pay 1.5 lakhs per month. Based on the amount they are reporting, they pay some extra money. It is not constant and fluctuates depending on the location.
  • There are two payment options in private centers. Pay either depends on how many cases they handle or on a monthly basis. For instance, 2 lakhs every month, or 300 for a USG, 400 for a CT, and 700 for an MRI. Given that I have no prior expertise, I am unsure of the precise sum. I spent 20 days working as a substitute in a private hospital and earned 2.2 lakhs (pay was on a case basis, by doing USG and reporting CT)
  • opening a center. If there are additional patients coming in, there is no income cap in this scenario. However, setup is highly expensive. For instance, an MRI machine costs $12 crore, a CT machine 25 lakhs, and a USG machine 4 crores. If you can perform 60 USGS, 40 CTs, and 25 MRIs, I’ll leave the rest to your imagination. 3 lakhs every day is a rough estimate. The issue is that you don’t often see that many patients. You must repay the funds you used to purchase the devices plus interest. You must consult with other doctors and surgeons, have them submit your cases, and possibly pay them (which happens all over India, which is unethical but still happens).
  • Interventionists. They carry out operations that are both diagnostic and therapeutic. Some complex CNS operations have relatively high costs. For instance, certain stents used to treat aneurysms cost about 8 lakhs (note that this is not for the radiologist, but the cost for the material used). Depending on the technique performed, they get paid differently. The remuneration is now more akin to that of a surgeon, based on the number of patients treated rather than on a monthly basis. Depending on the number of treatments performed, this also pays well. No limit once more.
